Tami's New Set

Well, we survived Christmas! I'm not quite sure how. We spent four days and visited with nearly 100 family members on two sides. Whew! Now it's back to business, although the kids are all on break until January 4. Wish me luck :)

We finished this up right before Christmas. It's Tami's new set. I love the rich colors in this one. Tami was super sweet to work with. I'm so excited for her!

Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend!

I love starting off a Monday with a new post. It makes me feel very on top of things … even if I'm playing major catch up. I can't believe I need to have all of my Christmas presents/goodies organized in 9 days.

I've been working with Kristen, of Kristen Lea Photography, on her new logo and set. It's a very clean, fresh and simple design. I love the purples and the pop of lime! We did her main logo and then a coordinating accent piece that she can include in her blog or use as a watermark. Did you notice the diamonds incorporated into her set? Kind of fun when your name is actually Kristen Diamond :) My pleasure Kristen … you've been a sweetheart to work with!

Jen's Custom Set

I just wrapped up Jen's custom set. She was looking for something with greens, a bit of pink, modern and classy with a bit of whimsy. I know that sounds like a mouthful, but that's what we came up with! We started off with her logo and finished up with this set full of greens, limes, pink and polka dots. We also developed the smaller "jb" to use as a stamp or watermark. It's incorporated as a design element in her set. Great working with you Jen!!

The Holiday Season …

Someone help me out here. Is it REALLY December tomorrow? Who OK'd that?? I'd like to skip back to Halloween, please. Where did time go? Let's see … quite a few logos, lots of custom marketing sets, holiday cards, custom albums (don't tell my mom and dad!), and Christmas pictures. I still have a LOT to do.

I'm wrapping up a few sets early this week and will be posting lots goodies soon. In the meantime, I thought I'd share my holiday card. It's got a back as well, but there needs to be some surprise, right? What else?? I braved Black Friday shopping. My sister and I actually started at 11pm and finished up about 7am. That was quite an experience. My family seems to be having a very "electronic" Christmas this year. I haven't decided if that's cool or not. What is your family getting for Christmas?

La La La La Lemon

This song has been running through my head ever since I've been working on Mary's set. This used to be one of my FAVORITES when I was a little girl! The Barenaked Ladies have a cooler version, but you can't beat Bert and Ernie … yes … I am a product of the '70s.

Moving on … it was great working with Mary on her new set. We started off by reworking her logo and then added lots of sunshine to her set. I love these bright colors! Lots of goodies in here, including a bookmark that doubles as an offer card. Sure to catch your attention. Good luck Miss Mary!!

Leia's Set POPS!

I love the color ruby and I think poppies are such beautiful flowers. Maybe it stems from my childhood love of all things Wizard of Oz. Whatever the case, I love the reds and lights greens in Leia's new custom marketing set.

Every time I do a new set or logo, I catch myself saying, "this is my favorite set yet!". I'm starting to realize it's similar to my relationship with my children … you're ALL my favorites! I love how each set fits with each photographer's personality. So much fun! Good luck Leia … who coincidentally is from the land of Oz :)

Lovin' Lori's New Set

I'm LOVIN' Lori's new set! We started with her logo … she was looking for something bright, fun and fashionable. Lori has so many great newborn shots. It was fun to coordinate her set while thinking of the little ones and their cute hats! You might recognize the image on her business card (little girl in pink knit hat). Lori won the Amazing Image contest over at the Savvy Photographer with that shot! Congrats Lori … wishing you much success!!

Just the Kiddos …

It was a Happy (yet chilly) Halloween!! Off to figure out what to do with a TON of candy. Bless her heart … Lucy asked someone for an apple :) Lots of new previews to come this week!!

Teresa's Custom Set

I'm in LOVE with Teresa's new marketing set! She wanted something clean and airy. Her logo has bolder colors. We needed to create something that would work with the softness of newborns and also the popped color of sweet girls in pettiskirts. I've really enjoyed working with her. Eras Photography Custom Set

This week I'll be unveiling a few of the custom marketing sets I've been working on. This one belongs to Amanda of Eras Photography. Amanda came to me with her logo and a feel for where she wanted to go. I love how the soft browns and purples compliment each other in this design. Hooray Amanda! So happy for you :)

In other major news … tomorrow marks the 19th anniversary of my first date with my husband. Isn't it romantic that we both remember?? I'm also sneaking out Friday afternoon with my kids. We're heading to the pumpkin patch and going apple picking. This will be the first time in nearly 12 years that I won't have to take a diaper bag. That is a very. big. deal!

Watch Them Grow!

Whew! By the time I design this card, post over at PinkInk Studios and in my Etsy shop, tweet and blog about it, I can't feel my arm! Great new card … watch them grow through the years! Can't type anymore … working on logos and marketing kits and seriously … if I can't move my arm, I can't make dinner … hmmm!! Go check it out!

Unplugged …

It wasn't for an entire day, but it was MOST of the day and it was GREAT! Yesterday I was able to sneak out and accompany Sam on his Pre-K field trip. We were supposed to "pumpkin patch it", but it rained buckets and we ended up playing in a gym, hitting the library and swimming. Who knew Sam liked basketball so much? It felt wonderful just to give him my undivided attention. With four kids running around and a business in my home, it's not easy to do.

My phone died and I had no access to email. For someone who stays up into all hours of the night and gets up even earlier to keep up, this was a welcome break. I've got lots of marketing kits and special projects and feel refreshed and ready to jump right back in. Here I go!!

PS - Phone is fixed, thanks to my super SMART husband :)

i heart faces : blue

I spent yesterday with this guy. Meet Jack. He is the youngest son of my friend, Kristy. Kristy and I have been friends since we were three. My house was her house. Her Barbies were my Barbies. I'm sure at some point I even tried to give her my little sister … she didn't take me up on that.

In April, Kristy lost her mom, Jane, to ovarian cancer. I am sad for my friend … Every. Single. Day. A small part of moving forward is finding great ways to remember or honor her mother. Yesterday we participated in a 5K Run/1 Mile Walk to benefit ovarian cancer research. I shouldn't say we … TeamJane had over 75 people there who love and support their family. We were the largest group there! We identified ourselves w/blue TeamJane shirts. I'd love to show the back of the shirt, but this is my I Heart Faces entry :) Everywhere you looked was a sea of blue. I snapped this of Baby Jack (b/c I have Big Jack). He might be too young to remember his grandma, but I know his mom will do as much as humanly possible to share her story so Jack will know how special she was.

Nine Nine Oh Nine

What a fun day! Just thought I'd share 9 random things with you. Some are business related, some personal and some just interesting.

1. Today is one of my best friend's wedding anniversary. Wouldn't you like to say you were celebrating 9 years on 9/9/09? Kristy is an awesome friend. We've known each other since we were three. In April, she lost her mother to ovarian cancer. I still cry about it. I cry for my friend and I've realized how fast life goes by. We're running for TeamJane on September 27 in St. Louis. It's a 5K run … I'm not prepared, but I know I can do it … for Kristy, for Jane and for my aunt, another person lost to ovarian cancer.

2. I enjoy reading blogs when I have time. I met Jodie at a NILMDTS meeting. She's such a nice person and I love her writing. It's so real. Check out Fresh Art Photography here. Jodie and Kim are doing amazing things with newborn and family shoots.

3. I LOVE doing custom design work. I'm currently working on custom marketing sets. I enjoy working with each photographer to show their style. Basically everyone has the same job, but the styles and possibilities to express what they are doing are endless. Super fun. I'll be post samples soon so you can see what we've come up with!

4. I had to include a picture with the post. We had family pics when we were on vacation in August. Pam and Lance of Oh Look! Photography were so much fun to work with. Showing off one of our crazy bunch! Thank you Pam :) My mom secretly wanted all of us to wear white and khaki and my sister and I wouldn't participate. Sorry … we don't dress like that in real life. It's beautiful for some … it's just not "us".

5. Many of you commented on or purchased the album I made to celebrate Ava Rosemeyer's birthday. A donation is being made to Paradise Kids in Ava's name. It's not too late to scoop one up if you're interested. If you held a tea party that day, this is the PERFECT album to display those images. One mom emailed me how much she loved it when she was finished putting in her daughter's images. Hooray!!

6. I've been on the Pink Ink design team for almost 7 months. If you're looking for great marketing templates, album pages, overlays, textures and more, head over to Pink Ink. We've kicked off September with new products and posts. Join the forum … it's free and always a great place to get advice. Hats off to Holly for all of her hard work. If you're a senior in St. Louis, check out her work … magnificent!

7. Today I took Sam and Lucy for their "well" check-ups. Always nice to go to the doctor when you aren't sick. We dropped off a ton of books. It's great to have something to read when you're waiting with kids in a 10x10 room. The books are part of Eliza's Library. Eliza is our friend in Utah. Her mom has got to be one of the best mom's ever. Please read more about Eliza's Library and if you have extra new or gently used books, they've LOVE to have them.

8. I have a NINE year old son, Jackson. He is the sweetest. kid. ever. His teacher emailed me the other day how much she enjoyed having him in class. It doesn't take much to persuade me, but that definitely called for an ice cream celebration!

9. Christmas is coming … yikes … I know! Lots of fun holiday templates available. Designs are shown here. What better way to end my Nine Nine Oh Nine post than with a deal? Ooh La La …

Vanessa and I just wrapped up a gorgeous marketing set for her studio, Ooh La La Photography. She wanted something to match her logo … something beautiful, something shabby, yet chic. Does this not make you say, "Ooh La La"?? Pleasure working with you, Vanessa. Hoping great things come to you and your photography business.

(Funny story … I have another Vanessa whom I think the world of. This is for Vanessa from the States. Both lovely women … must be the fabulous name!)

Random Bits …

Just a little post to say that we've returned from our family vacation and I'm in the process of getting caught up with everything. It was very, very hard to come home. I believe I'm a beach girl at heart. I also didn't realize how much I needed a vacation. It was wonderful to be able to spend time with the kids and my family, just sitting on the beach and soaking up the sun. My mom also taught me to play Canasta which was a lot of fun once I got the hang of it! We also had beach pics taken … so excited to see those. I rented a wide angle lens and realized I'm much more comfortable with my prime. Besides, I get better exercise. I also noticed that my children rarely look when I take their picture. I may be the queen of the walking away shots.

What's in store for MadiLu Designs? I'm working on new products, don't forget to order your holiday cards, remember that August is a special month for Ava Rosemeyer and you can purchase her Superprincess album with all proceeds going to charity. It's wonderful to see how many lives she's touched. Thank you to all who have participated. There have even been some who have been generous enough to buy for others … I love working with such thoughtful people.

I've got new marketing sets in the works and am working on custom sets. How I love custom marketing sets! I enjoy showing off the unique style of each and every photographer I work with.

I'm finishing up a new website for MadiLu … hoping to make the products more visible and simplify the ordering process. I'll share as soon as that is up. I think that's it … better go start making sure the backpacks are organized for tomorrow … wishing summer would never end.

For the Superprincess …

It's funny how life will take you on unexpected journeys. I'm a full-time designer, but about a year ago I was involved in a photography workshop that instantly changed me at the core. I was fortunate enough to participate in a workshop taught by Sheye Rosemeyer. Sheye's an amazing, actually more than amazing, natural light photographer. Her keen eye, subtle images and style of processing warm my heart. When her children are adults, they're going to be able to look back and have a wonderful collection of images that truly tell their life's story. How lucky are they?

If you visit Sheye's blog, you're going to read about her Superprincess … Miss Ava. Be prepared to shed many tears. I think everyone who participated in Sheye's workshops feels a personal connection to both Sheye and Ava.

This month (August 22) marks Ava's birthday. To honor the Superprincess, I've created a 5x5 album … all girly … all things pink … perfect for images of your princess. All proceeds from this album will be donated to Paradise Kids in Ava's memory. The album sells for $10 (US) and is made up of 10 pages, fitting WHCC specs. Getting Seniors on Board

I've worked with Sheila for several years. We started off with her logo and branding many moons ago and I'm now the digital artist for her senior and wedding pics. New Marketing Set

Just added this one to the collection of marketing sets. I was inspired by a logo I was working on for a beautiful photographer … such a great person. I'll be blogging about her logo soon! We headed a different direction with her logo, but the colors from this one sparked an idea and it turned into this kit.

Like the others, you may choose eight files for $100. Two-sided pieces count as one file. There is more than what is shown here, including 5x7 marketing cards, bookmarks, senior rep cards, poster and more.

I snapped these images at Easter. That Claire might be too cute for her own good! Love her :)

Christmas is Coming …

Lots of ideas in the works for the 2009 holiday season! MadiLu Designs is putting the final touches on what should help SIMPLIFY your card ordering process. If you prefer individual templates, great! We've got something for you. If you'd rather not mess with the templates at all and want to send us your images … that's in the works as well! If you want the completed order to show up at your studio or your client's doorstep, that can also happen.

Kristy's Custom Set

Just wanted to share a custom marketing set that I designed for Kristy Milton Photography. After designing the logo, I started off with a two-sided business card, letterhead, envelope, and packaging sticker to give her a good supply of "the basics". I created a little brighter card that will work great for senior reps. Her info sheet is a great piece to have for miscellaneous notes, price sheets and even to handwrite a personal note to clients. Last but not least, I designed a gift certificate and a 5x7 marketing card.

It's going to look AMAZING with Kristy's images! Good luck Kristy!!

I'm pretty excited that all of you took the time to comment on my blog … really, it means a lot! As a mom of four, I feel that I'm constantly thinking of what's "fair" and "who gets the most attention/bedtime stories/snacks" … I'm sure you understand. Such is life.

*Membership Year runs June 1 - May 31. When you become a member, you will receive all materials up to date for the current year. Products released by the 10th of each month. Photobooks are released in January, April, July, October.Designs are exclusive to MadiLu members only. Templates willnot be released for resale on other sites until the end of each membership year. You may use these products to sell to your clients, but you may not resell templates as your own. All files are layered .psd files, customizable for your use.

Custom Logos and Marketing Sets

MadiLu Designs offers custom logo design. The price of a custom logo is $125 and includes three initial concepts and revisions. Once finished, you will be given a .psd, .jpeg and .png file.

About MadiLu Designs

I am a graphic designer with over 12 years experience in the design and printing industry. I've worked closely with photography studios for the last four years. My goal is to provide photography studios with easy to use, fresh, simple templates that will give them more time behind the camera, capturing beautiful images.

I sell my templates at PinkInk Studios and Etsy. You can also join my LittleLu or MadiMoo clubs and get monthly templates and albums.

I freelance on a full-time basis. I'm also a mom of four … two boys, two girls and their dad is the greatest guy I know. Things are usually crazy-busy, but I wouldn't change it for the world. I count my blessings each and every day.

Exclusive MadiLu News!

I've been mulling over how and where to sell my products. I currently sell on this site, at PinkInk and in my Etsy store. It's a lot to keep track of when you add in all of the custom work I do, not to mention the "regular" work load I have for retouching and corporate clients.

I will continue to sell the products through Etsy and PinkInk, but MadiLu is coming out with an exclusive membership club. One yearly subscription will get you several new products each month. These products will not be available on PinkInk or Etsy. They are exclusive for MadiLu members only. It's a great way to update your own products each month, including wall templates, cards, announcements, and photo books. MadiLu Designs Updates

Yes … it's been FOREVER. I've been cranking out tons of work for my Etsy store and have also joined the design team at PinkInk Studios. I'll still be posting updates here and this is a great place to contact me if you need custom work.

Love, love, love this one! The colors are customizable. You can achieve a lot with this set … muted colors, bright colors, black and white … works well with color or black and white images too.
